Design Principles in 3D
This project requires students to explore a 2D composition in a 3D space. Specifically, students first created a 2D composition (left) with lines and shapes and applications of design principles (balance, focal point, symmetry, color, etc.). Then, they created a 3D composition (right) based on the 2D composition and experimented with 3D forms in various dimensions.

Redesign An Interactive Sequence
This project requires students to first identify some interactive sequences on a website that have problems, and then use a user-centered design process to redesign those sequences to solve the problems. Interactive sequences refer to a multi-step sequence of web pages a web user moves through to accomplish a task.

Design An Illustrative Travel Poster
This project requires students to design an illustrative travel poster using Adobe Illustrator CS6 or CC. Students need to first work on sketches of layout of the poster based on reference images they collected from their initial researches on theme, graphic styles, color schemes of existing travel posters. Then they will scan their sketches into computer and use illustrator for final rendering.

Technical Illustration
The objective of this project is to use Illustrator gradient and mesh tools, together with other necessary tools to create photorealistic illustrations for electronic devices of daily access. Students are required to first make perspective sketches of the electronic devices of their choice to examine form and details of an object, and then develop their computer rendering of the devices using Illustrator.

The Crafted
This project aims to hone students’ design skills through the application of design principles and an understanding of type anatomy. The students will use Photoshop to illustrate the word “CRAFT” in three typefaces, Rockwell, Garamond, and Futura. Each letter of this word will be formed by deconstructing and seamlessly reconstructing assigned object or “thing” in an interesting and logical way to honor the anatomy of the letters.

Extension Project: App UX Design and Prototyping
This extension project aims to introduce new design students basic concepts of interaction design and user experience design (UX) at a very early stage. Student are required to create a mobile app that has some basic functionalities:
+ Introduces people the history of the typefaces:
Rockwell, Garamond, and Futura.
+ Allows people to select a typeface and an image gallery
to generate an image of Craft.
